Parking lot maintenance companies offer a wide of services among which are pavement marking striping and restriping. When talking about colors, each type of pavement markings should conform to the standard specified in the “Color Specifications for Retro-reflective Sign and Pavement Marking Materials”. There are 4 main colors for pavement markings, namely, yellow, white, red, and blue.

  • Yellow pavement marking designates loading zones, no parking, and visitor parking areas. Yellow paint is also used for lines that separate opposing flows of traffic.
  • White pavement markings in the parking lot mark transverse markings (crosswalks, words, symbols). Also, white lines separate one-way traffic lanes or mark their right edge.

How Often Should I Refresh The Pavement Markings On My Parking Lot?

Weather conditions, traffic volume, quality of the asphalt and paint contribute to the durability of parking lot markings. The pavement markings in outdoor parking lots are much easier to get worn because of continuous sunlight, water, salt, and oil exposure.

In order to create a sense of safety, parking lot owners are obliged to care about all the details in the parking area. The parking lot maintenance includes high-quality painting and repainting of pavement marking. Directional Arrows in Your Parking Lot

Why Directional Arrows Are Important in Your Parking Lot or Parking Garage

Parking lot striping should be clearly visible regardless of the season of the year and weather. Having proper marking in the parking lot, such as parking lot and pavement line striping, pedestrian pathways, handicap, no parking, and other signs, visitors can feel safe by knowing areas that are restricted.

Directional arrows don't have a force of law but they can help to avoid violation of the law. The thing is that pavement markings and signs such as a handicap no parking are obligatory to obey and directional arrows point out the right way and bypass the way to forbidden parking spaces.

Parking lot markings are necessary for a parking lot maintenance and cannot be ignored by any category of drivers. If the parking area is covered with snow or directional arrows are not visible, drivers might be excused. Though if they break the rules consciously and intentionally by parking in no parking spaces or spaces for the disabled, they can be charged fees and police can issue a ticket.

Types of Parking Lot Markings and Directional Arrows

Featuring such bold colors as white, yellow, red, blue parking lot arrows other signs can be visible from all the angles. If they are made with the use of fluorescent paint, drivers can easily distinguish them at night and in underground parking lots. It is also important that traffic arrows and other signs were durable, made with weatherproof paint in order to last long and withstand water, dirt, salt, and other destructive substances.
Parking lot arrow stencil is often used for common pavement markings making them durable thanks to its enhanced thickness.

There are a lot of types of painted traffic arrows and other parking lot markings. When talking about striping, it can be divided into a few groups depending on its color, namely, white (directional arrows, parking lot line striping, crosswalk, pavement striping, no parking areas and other), yellow (parking space line striping, crosswalk, curb painting, loading zones, etc.), red (fire lane striping, pedestrian pathway, etc.), blue (handicap striping).
Parking lot directional arrows which are, as a rule, white, can be straight, turned right or left, a minimum of 4 inches wide.

Directional Arrows in Your Parking Lot

Parking Lot Directional Arrows

Parking lots, especially those inside buildings, are quite difficult to comprehend, especially if they are lacking signs and other symbols. Even outside parking spaces can mislead you, especially if it’s your first time to park in that particular area.

That’s why signages and other symbols play an important role to help the drivers navigate their way inside and avoid accidents as much as possible. One of the most significant signages that you might find handy on parking establishments is the directional arrows.

Control The Traffic Flow In Your Parking Lot With Directional Arrows

The parking area is very limited for driving, especially since the main purpose of the place is for parking cars, not necessarily on driving. That’s why it’s very important that the drivers are aware of the surroundings of the parking.

Just like on roads, parking lot arrows can guide the drivers where they should be supposedly driving, as well as to show them the flow of the traffic. It could also show them the direction of the right way of driving to avoid counter flows, which could be a huge hindrance to parking spaces because, as it was already mentioned, parking spaces have limited area for driving.

Directions placed on parking is also strategically placed in order to allow the drivers to maximize the space that they have. With proper clearance and alertness for other signs and markings, you will be able to park with no sweat.

Types Of Parking Lot Markings and Directional Arrows

There are different signages and markings that you can find on parking areas, but traffic arrows are usually in the form of paint, either on the floor or on the wall. Usually, painted traffic arrows have reflectors on them to allow the driver to see them properly, especially during the night.

The usual color of these markings is yellow, white, blue, or even red. This is to ensure that the marking and direction can be clearly seen even from afar. There might be circumstances that the arrow will start to get faint, but as long as you can see at least the parking lot arrow stencil that points you in the proper direction, then you will be able to get through it peacefully and orderly.

Wheel Stops in Your Parking Lot

Concrete Wheel Stops for Parking Lot

Wheel stops, also known as parking blocks, are physical barriers which are the major components of any well-maintained parking lot-be it inside or outside. They help in keeping the vehicles in order by sounding a notification to the driver that no forward movement is allowed.

Reasons Why Wheel Stops Are Needed for Your Parking Lot

  • Warning and stopping drivers from causing structural damages installed in the lot
  • Stooping improper vehicle encroachment in areas of pedestrian pathways
  • Demarcating parking areas and loading zones
  • Preventing collisions between vehicles, vehicles, and walls
  • Easy accessibility of vehicles into the parking space
  • Allow easy exit of vehicles out of the parking space

During the design of the parking lot and the installation of the parking blocks, the designer needs to do a risk-benefit analysis. Not every person that uses the parking lots has the same concentration and focus as they access the area irrespective of age.

Despite the many benefits the parking blocks offer, there are usually pedestrian accidents that they pose if not well placed and marked. Hence, it can cause serious pedestrian injuries.

Wheels stops should have a contrasting color from the surrounding environment.
Adjacent wheel stops should be appropriately positioned to maintain safe pedestrian passage.

Parking Lot Wheel Stops

Parking, especially parking backward, requires an experienced and safe driver. Wheel stops are a very useful and simple tool designed to make parking fast, easy and safe. As a rule, wheel stops for cars are used to prevent car accidents in narrow and short parking lots. When losing control, a driver may drive into curbs, buildings or other cars. For large vehicles, it is even more important to predict all the risks and avoid all the dangers.
Charleston Parking Lot Wheel Stops
All wheel stops are the same in width, 12 inches. Wheel stops’ height usually varies from 9 to 10 cm. In most cases, their length equals 4, 6 or 8 inches. The length is an important factor when it comes to buying the wheel stops. The longer the item is, the greater is its overall size, hence its price. There exist a wide range of wheel stops with various dimensions, weight, and price to suit all sizes of vehicles. One more thing to remember is that the distance between these equipment items and curbs should not be less than 60 cm. If wheel stops are used to prevent vehicle contact with a wall, an extra 20 cm should be added to this distance. Also, wheel stops higher than 10 cm are not recommended to be used in the parking lots.

ADA Wheel Stop Requirements

You might ask, are there any specific requirements regarding wheel stops? In general, wheel stops are not required to be installed in every parking lot. Though in some parking lots there might appear a risk of a vehicle intruding into the road if it is located in front of the parking lot. In this case, ADA regulations oblige to put wheel stops in a specific place.
